The Radiation Oncology RN has continual interaction with patients, the treatment duration often several times a week over a six week period, This nursing professional provides information to patients and the families about the treatment, how to care for themselves, and any possible side effects that they may encounter. This patient advocate is the facilitator of the care plan, performs assessments at each visit and in working collaboratively with the physician determines how the treatments are going, answers questions, providing continual medical management education.
Position Summary:Utilizes a systematic approach to nursing practice incorporating assessment,
planning, implementation, and evaluation, thus providing continuing health care to individuals, families, and communities within the RN scope of practice as defined by the
illinois
nurse Practice Act.
Duties include:Patient assessment, telephone triage, medication administrations and patient education for patients receiving radiation oncology care.
Education:Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Diploma, Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree)
Licensure/Certification:Current Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Illinois. BLS Certification required, ONS certification preferred.
Knowledge/Skills:Demonstrates clinical competencies in providing direct patient care and patient and family education as well as assisting the provider in the delivery of patient care. Demonstrates leadership and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively and collaboratively with others, ultimately providing superior customer service and healthcare. Previous nursing experience in oncology, chemo therapy or radiation therapy preferred.
